Escondido scondido has a healthy folksy culture for a growing city. On a Friday night, the all-American "Cruisin' Grand" amateur auto show runs in the Spring and Summer. Ordinary people bring out their lawn chairs, diners pick an outdoor table to see classic cars of every vintage run up and down Grand Avenue, the main dining street of Escondido. The police promptly end it at 9pm.Vinz is the new downtown wine bar opened 2-29-08 - good menu and wine. Sadly Asia-Vous has closed (2004-2007), once serving the finest food in the city. Replaced by Tango, it is not in the same league, though the prices would lead you to think so. The Terrific large modern Microbrewerey and (opened winter 2006) Stone_World_Bistro - though the kitchen insists everything be cooked in a beer, and there are no pleasers, just Asian fusion trials. Could they take a tip from Mustard's Grill in Napa - maybe a California wood grilled chicken sausages - things that are not made of beer, but go with it? The charming setting at Hacienda de Vega is a nice stop, though the kitchen could aim higher. Food lovers will enjoy the authentic German Continenal Deli serving cafe top homestyle German food. He has now opened Vinz next door. A dinner table at Bistro Le Bouchon serves true French cuisine. The stunning new Postmodern Mexican building houses Mi Guadalajara relocated serving American style Mexican food. The famous San Diego Artisan Bakery is also located in Escondido. One of the better dowtown restaurants 150 Grand - a very chic cafe. Mark Beaulieu 3/2/2008 10:57:00 AM
